CCleaner attacked by hackers. Be afraid if you have downloaded the program recently

CCleaner is a pretty well known cleanup software, used for safe removal of files from your computer. Well, this time it turned out not to be so safe to use… an unknown group of hackers (or a single hacker, for all we know) have replaced an original version of the application with the same one, but with a nasty malware hidden within it. The hacker/s were professional enough to even make sure that their CCleaner has proper certification. ”Evil” CCleaner worked exacly the same as its original counterpart, except the malware within it allowed the hacker/s access to the user’s computers.

Anyone who downloaded the CCleaner between 15th August and 12th September can be in danger. Thankfully, so far there is no sign of hackers using their ill-gained entrance into people’s computers. If you have downloaded and installed CCleaner in the abovementioned period of time, the best thing for you to do is to uninstall it and download the application’s newest version. Updating the app should remove all traces of malware from your PC. Changing your passwords is also advisable.

P.S. You know the scary part? CCleaner is owned by Avast, company best known for its antivirus applications. If someone who deals in web security cannot handle the hackers, who can?
