Apple offers (possibly unofficial) free repairs for iPhones damaged in hurricane Harvey

It is good to see that people affected by Harvey are not left alone. We have already heard about carriers offering free telephone services in areas affected by the hurricane; we have also heard about Apple donating two million dollars to relief efforts (which is something of a paltry sum, but hey, they did not have to give even that so kudos). Now we hear that Apple is offering free phone repairs for those whose phones broke as an effect of either the hurricane itself or the following evacuation. If your phone fell into the water or got smashed while you were being evacuated, you can have high hopes for Apple to cover your repair fee under a warranty (which normally does not cover such occurences).

There has been no official word on Apple doing that and, when asked, Apple officials do not confirm it, but the fact is (reportedly) that many of the affected iPhone owners got their phones fixed/exchanged for free. Without an official company-wide policy, free repairs seem to be done on a case-to-case basis, rules of which we do not exacly know.

No use looking gifted horse in mouth, I guess. If I were the victim of a disastrous hurricane and have my phone break, I would be really glad to have one less problem to deal with. Well done, Apple.
