It sucks, but ever since 2014 our Google Mail messages have been scanned by Google. Scanning a mail does not mean that someone actually read it, of course, but it does mean that someone got the general gist of what you are usually writing about. Internet security is, as of late, one of the hottest topics world-wide, which may have prompted Google to stop doing this – at least officially (yeah, I do not really trust corporations).

Diane Green, Senior Vice President of Google Cloud, announced that some time this year Gmail stop scanning user’s mails and will instead test a new method of creating personalized advertisements (yes, those things will still be there). Instead of scanning mails, Google will use information gathered by Google Search Engine or YouTube to craft ads that you will always ignore anyway. Mrs. Green also reminded the community of the existence of G Suite, a paid, advert-less set of Google applications that offers a safe (well, safer, at least officially) and smart Google experience.

What do you people think? Does Google actually want to not spy on us as much as it does now, or is this just a marketing hogwash?
