Samsung has revealed via regulatory filings that it is going to separate its loss-generating LCD display panel business from the rest of the company. The new company will be called Samsung Display and will officially launch April 1 as a wholly owned subsidiary of Samsung Electronics. According to a Samsung representative interviewed by Bloomberg, the company is evaluating whether or not to merge the new Samsung Display LCD business with its existing Samsung Mobile Display OLED business (which makes screens for its smartphones). The company wants to be able to concentrate more fully on OLED technologies moving forward.
